A new venture…

A friend recently asked we take a few minutes to look at a video about something she was really excited about. She’s been involved in the same network marketing venture as Triste has for the fast few years, so there was already a trust and rapport there.

Those that know me, know I’m pretty skeptical about things. But the more I listened the more I realized the concept is actually pretty simple. Major producers of products and services such as Dish Network and wireless carriers such a Verizon, AT&T, etc spend billions each year to attract loyal customers and the way they do that is to pay a percentage of the contract to the company that sent that customer to them…

That’s why you see the large wireless phone displays in places like Walmart and Target. You’ll never see a Walmart or Target phone, or buy a Walmart or Target wireless plan. All they “provide” is the connection between you as the customer and the carrier. And millions of dollars go to Bentonville and Atlanta each month for the connections.

And low and behold, they’re also glad to pay us that percentage as well to send them customers! Even for our phones, TV, internet access, etc it really doesn’t make sense to me for the vendors to be paying somebody else to send me there when they could be paying me…. So we’ve signed up and are now independent representatives with Fortune High-Tech Marketing. A couple of our grown children, Amanda, Jessica and Michael have already seen the advantage as well and signed on.

Serving where you are..

Leaving our old church where we served as technical director and on the worship team, and finding a new home at a much larger church left us in a season where we needed rest and refreshment.

Like most seasons, it is only for a time, and God showed us it was time to serve again. But where and how was the question? We’d gotten the younger boys involved is Awanas and the older boys going to Elevate, Summit’s student ministry. But Triste and I were still trying to figure out where God would have us serve……..

Couple of things happened to start bringing it together. Triste has always had a great voice and enjoyed worship. Me, I’m a worshipper, but never thought I could sing a lick! God says make a joyful noise, not a great sounding one! Triste thought we should get involved with the worship team. So we started attending practice and God’s really blessed us in stepping out!

Little River Cloggers

For those of you not familiar with it clogging is similar in some ways to square dance and is one of the most popular of the traditional dance forms of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. And you might wonder what that has to with ministry, technology or me.

Well, the director of the team Gail Lyle, and the vast majority of the families involved in the team are committed believers. Of my 8 children, 6 have danced with the team, and 4 still do. And I’ve just realized that although being together since 1995 and dozens of kids and parents being involved over the years, that the team simply had no presence on the web.

The heart of a ministry tech is sharing the expertise with the body of believers that can benefit from that expertise. We hope to be a blessing to Gail and the team by creating and maintainig the Little River Cloggers blog.

Bringing light into the darkness

Bringing light into the darkness is exactly what being a believer is all about. If you don’t keep up with Ken Stark’s Blog of Helios you should. Ken’s efforts are a great example of how techies can walk this out. In his post Bringing light into the darkness he helps bring love hope and freedom to victims of abuse.

Freedom to do and be what God calls us to be is the essence of the Christian life. As we have been visiting various churches looking for what He has for us next He took us to New Horizon Church in Durham for the sermon series, House of Blues.

While the music is outstanding, the series are worth a look, especially if you’re trapped in the House of Blues!

Durham Ministers In Prayer is made up of ministers from many Christian churches, denominations, ministries, and individuals that share a common vision for our city, Durham, NC. The primary purpose of DMIP is to provide an opportunity for Christian ministers to meet on a regular basis to pray for the City of Durham. We love Durham and our desire is to see our city transformed by the power of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Recognizing that this diverse group needed a online area to share their vision with others and colaborate with each other, I offered to assist them with a new website. Like most of the sites I develope for others it uses WordPress and the results can be seen at www.dmip.org. While it is still being developed, I am quite excited about the possibilities it holds for uniting the Body of Christ in Durham, and how I can be a blessing in that!
